Once in a while a fabric turns up that is simply beautiful, beautiful in every way. This one came from a sample sale, too narrow for curtains, too narrow for upholstery, deemed not quite useful enough for anyone else's purposes. Their loss entirely!

Because hiding in that heavy green cotton is a rather magnificent peacock, rendered in warm limes and golds, tail trailing off into the leaves like he's mid-strut through an overgrown garden. Look closer and you'll find he's not alone, a few smaller birds are tucked into the branches too, waiting quietly to be noticed.

Standing tall at 74cm on a slim 20cm frame, this one isn't so much a lampshade as a small piece of art that happens to light up. Switch it on and the whole thing glows like stained glass at dusk, genuinely one of those pieces people stop and ask about. It would earn its keep beautifully in a lounge or dining corner, bring real character to a home office, or make a proper statement in a hallway that's crying out for something unexpected.

I have just enough of this fabric left for one more shade and because of where the pattern falls on the roll, no two will ever be quite identical. Which, if you ask me, only makes this one worth grabbing while it's here.
