This 30cm handmade drum lamp shade all began with a beautifully understated gold flecked linen. The sort of fabric that catches the light quietly rather than demanding attention... but it was waiting for the right companion.

Then came this extraordinary embroidered silk ribbon. Soft duck egg forms the backdrop, while delicate stitched flowers, leaves and fan-shaped petals unfurl across it in the gentlest palette of coral, dusky pink, pale turquoise, mulberry and soft green, with tiny glimmers of metallic thread catching the light as you move around the room.

It's intricate without being fussy. Elegant without taking itself too seriously. The sort of detail you notice... and then notice all over again.

This shade has a rather glamorous sister, made from the same shimmering linen but wearing a very different ribbon. They look rather lovely together... although they're equally happy stealing the limelight on their own. (Take a look at the pics for them together!)

The shade is lined in soft sky blue linen because beautiful fabrics deserve beautiful insides too. When the lamp is lit, the blue lining softens the light beautifully, while the embroidered trim seems to come alive, revealing little details you somehow missed the first time.

It's one of those pieces that rewards a second glance. And then, perhaps a third.
